Accelerated Reader
Our students love using the Accelerated Reader programme at Corpus Christi.
It is a computer based software for monitoring reading practice.
Before using Accelerated Reader students need to take a Star Test. This is a computer adaptive reading test designed to identify their reading level (colour band).
After a reading level is identified students choose a book within their colour band and then take a reading practice quiz when the book is finished. Books with quizzes are analysed during quiz creation and are then assigned a readability level. The quiz questions use words from the books read and also keep track of words learned.
Reports are printed on demand for information on reading practice. These can be as a whole year group, class or individual student reports.
Progress charts are used on the display board in the library. Students also have access to their own progress and monitoring. They can use this section for self-evaluation and reflection.
With as little as 20 minutes of reading practice every day the programme gives them the reading skills they need to succeed.
