We want to make sure that we are providing your child with the best education and support we can. Healthy school food has obvious health benefits and can help pupils establish healthy habits for life. Healthy school food can also help to improve pupils’ readiness to learn.
If you are the parent, foster parent, network family carer or guardian of children at school, and you are on a low income, you could be entitled to free school meals.
Your children are entitled to free school meals if you receive:
- Income Support
- Income-based Job Seeker’s Allowance
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- Guaranteed element of Pension Credit
- Universal Credit, from the start of academic year 2026 to 2027, your child will qualify for free school meals if you get Universal Credit, regardless of any additional household income.
- Support under part V1 of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
Free School Meals are administered by Leeds City Council. If you want to claim for free school meals and your child attends a school in Leeds, use the free school meals claim form.
By making a claim for free meals with Leeds City Council you could also raise an extra income for our school, to fund valuable support like extra tuition, additional teaching staff or after school activities. This additional money is called Pupil Premium and is available from central government for every child who has a Free School Meals award in place.
When completing the form, only list those children who attend school within Leeds.
