Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium

The Pupil Premium Grant was introduced in 2011 and is allocated for pupils on roll that are known to have been eligible for free school meals (FSM) at any time in the last six years.  It is also allocated for children who are or have been looked after under local authority care for more than one day and for children from service families who receive a child pension from the Ministry of Defence. Pupil Premium funding is allocated to improve educational outcomes for disadvantaged pupils in state-funded schools in England.

The priority for Corpus Christi Catholic College’s Pupil Premium Strategy is to help create successful, independent, curious learners who are sensitive to opportunity and the possibilities of life. We aim to remove any barriers to learning for our students and ensure every student has the opportunity to maximise their potential.

As recommended by the EEF (Education Endowment Foundation) our Pupil Premium strategy at Corpus Christi College is based on this 3-tiered approach. The EEF recommends that schools use the grant firstly to improve teaching quality – which benefits all pupils but has a disproportionate benefit for disadvantaged pupils. Basic needs, pastoral and academic support follow. Teaching and Learning is our top priority, including professional development, training and support for early career teachers, as well as recruitment and retention. Targeted support for struggling students forms another key component of our new Pupil Premium strategy; as well as strategies that relate to non-academic factors, including improving attendance, behaviour and social and emotional support.

Intervention for each student is considered on an individual needs based process.  It is possible that one student may benefit from several interventions.
